The Housing Authority of the City of Tampa and Hillsborough County’s Aging Services Department Partner to honor accomplishments of its senior citizens; City and County Officials to participate

The month of May is proclaimed “Older Americans” month throughout the nation and each year the Tampa Housing Authority partners with Hillsborough County’s Department of Aging Services to plan a celebration for our senior citizens. The THA properties at the J. L. Young Apartments and the Bethune High Rise have more than 400 seniors participating along with more than 100 seniors from the Hillsborough County Aging Services program. This grand event recognizes the achievements and contributions of our senior citizens.
This year, five (5) Hillsborough County Commissioners will be participants on the program as well as representatives from the Tampa City Council, Tampa Housing Authority, Hillsborough County and City of Tampa staff.
A three-tiered event, the Older American celebration begins with an opening ceremony followed by both indoor and outdoor activities that will include health screenings, health related vendors, exercise demonstrations and social activities.
Jerome Ryans, THA’s President/CEO said, “The most effective way to celebrate Older Americans month is to do something direct and personal with the seniors you know and care about to help them remain healthy, happy and independent”.
“Never Too Old to Play”, is the theme for the 2012 program and places a spotlight on the important role our older citizens play in sharing their experience, wisdom and understanding. We hope that you will join us as we recognize and honor our senior citizens.
