Approximately 550 Kids Received School Supplies and Lunch

West Tampa-
This past Thursday (August 18, 2011) the Tampa Housing Authority hosted its third annual back-to-school bash and school supply giveaway to more than 550 boys and girls. Underneath tents set up on the grounds at the Oaks of Riverview community center, the kids enjoyed competitive games, face painting and a delicious lunch, Of course, the highlight of the day was receiving back to school bags filled with just about everything needed to begin school on the right foot. The event theme for this year was “Back-to-School Bash; Fun in the Sun!”

Transportation was provided by THA and included all interested public housing and Section 8 residents that were unable to get there on their own. Special thanks are extended to all sponsors as well as the dedicated Program and Property Services staff that took the time to make this an enjoyable event for all participants.

“We want all of our school-aged residents to be as ready for the first day of school as any other child during this time,” said Jerome Ryans, president and CEO. “The staff did a wonderful job ensuring that no child left empty handed; it is our goal to do this every school term.”
