TAMPA (June 11, 2014)--“Footsteps of a Father” is the theme of this year’s Fatherhood Initiative and who knows better than Michael Clayton, former wide receiver for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Titus O’Neil, WWE Wrestling Superstar. This Friday, June 13th, the Tampa Housing Authority will host its 4th annual Fatherhood Initiative event to be held at the Oaks of Riverview, located at 110 East Kirby Street, Tampa, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This event is aimed at celebrating the fathers and father figures within our community. There will be free food, face painting, haircuts, music and the opportunity to meet Michael Clayton, Titus O’Neil and many more.
This initiative, which began 4 years ago under President Obama’s push for stronger families, was adopted and implemented by housing authority’s governing body, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Through this year’s event our hope is to bring our community together through information, motivation and just an overall goodtime. There are countless examples of what happens when men are not present to mentor and enrich other young men as they navigate towards adulthood; so by celebrating the contributions of men who are fathers to their children or act as father figures to those whom they mentor; we as an agency hope to do our part in supporting healthy families.
“Being a father is one of the most important jobs in the world,” says Jerome Ryans, President and CEO. “It’s time for men to take up their rightful place within the home and our community. All we have to do is look around us and we as men can see the failure. It is up to everyone to do his part in making sure that we secure the next generation.”
Michal Clayton was once considered one of the best all-around wide receivers to have ever played at LSU. He took that talent and drive to the NFL, where he was drafted 15th overall during the first round pick and later went on to win the ultimate title during the 2012 Superbowl XLVI Championship, against the NY Giants. Now retired, Mr. Clayton takes his message of encouragement and motivation all across the country. Father of three beautiful children, Mr. Clayton knows firsthand the benefits of being a father and father figure to those who look up to him.
Titus O’Neil, also known as Thaddeus Bullard, is a Florida native and graduate from the University of Florida. On any given day of the week you can see Mr. Bullard in front of millions wrestling some of the industry’s favorites on WWE SMACKDOWN. As a former arena football player, Mr. Bullard is no stranger to the limelight nor is he a stranger to fatherhood. He is the proud father of two boys, one for whom he named his character after. Mr. Bullard has actively made positive parental involvement his most profound platform.
