The Tampa Housing Authority celebrates the fourth building to go vertical at the Encore site

It was a standing room only crowd that included Tampa’s Mayor Bob Buckhorn, Congresswoman Kathy Castor and a host of other business and community affiliates, as the Tampa Housing Authority held its fourth groundbreaking ceremony, Thursday, February 13th, to commemorate the Tempo at ENCORE!. Scheduled for completion in 2015, the Tempo will be a LEED Silver Certification development. Named in honor of the rich musical history of Downtown Tampa’s Central Avenue; the Tempo is a joint public-private partnership venture with Banc of America Community Development Corp. and the Tampa Housing Authority.

Construction continues at the Encore complex, one apartment complex is fully leased and three more are under construction or nearly ready to build. Last month construction began on The Reed, a 158-unit senior apartment building. The Trio, a 141-unit multi-family apartment building, is slated to open in April. By January, The Tempo, a 203-unit multi-family apartment building, should be under construction with completion in 2015. All apartment buildings will have about 5,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space.

"Design plans for Tempo have debuted, the fourth jazz-themed residential building at the Encore redevelopment site in downtown Tampa. The $41 million project is expected to break ground the first quarter of 2014. Kevin Bessolo of Bessolo Design Group is the architect for the 203-unit apartment building, which will offer one-bedroom to four-bedroom floor plans. The 265,723-square-foot building will offer a 365-space, multi-level parking garage.
