Encore is the 28 acre site originally occupied by the 483 unit central park village public housing community. Central Park was demolished in 2007.
The site is now called Encore and has been master planned as a 12 city block redevelopment with a town square, vaulted storm water system, and other site amenities to facilitate the development of a mixed-use mixed-income urban village immediately north of Tampa’s central business district. The 12 lots to comprise the Encore district have been planned for the following uses:
Encore is a sustainable community which will reach Gold status under the LEED-ND (LEED for Neighborhood Development) criterion. Encore will include renewable energy systems; a district chiller plant; historic preservation of a 100 year old church which will be used for community services and eventually become Tampa’s African American History Museum; a walk able community with bike paths; 2 parks; historic trails and monuments; immediate access to current mass transit and future light rail; all located near Tampa’s largest employment center making for an excellent market for workforce and affordable housing.
